Four year old raped by Muslim neighbour in Bhainsa, Telangana

The brutal rape of a four-year-old by her Muslim neighbor in Telangana’s Bhainsa has come to light. The girl is a resident of Mirzapur located 5 kilometers away from Bhainsa in the Nirmal district of Telangana. She resided there with her parents and paternal grandmother. Her parents are field laborers and the accused is their Muslim neighbor who took advantage of the girl being alone to brutally rape the child. As per some unconfirmed accounts, the Muslim man is 18 years old.

When the girl’s parents were away at work and her grandmother had stepped out for a short while, the man is said to have raped the little girl. He fled the scene after the little girl’s grandmother rushed home hearing her cries. The accused fled the scene seeing her grandmother. The little girl who was bleeding was rushed to the local hospital by her parents and grandmother.

As per the statement of the parents, however, the Bhainsa rural police authorities instead of registering a case against the rapist attempted to suppress the case. The girl’s parents opine that police are reluctant to register a case in view of the recent communal violence as the accused is a Muslim and this case could further disturb communal harmony. It is pertinent to mention that Bhainsa was placed under curfew when the incident occurred.

After initial treatment at Nirmal town, the family approached BJP district president Rama Devi in view of the child’s health condition. The girl was admitted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad by Rama Devi. The girl’s parents issued a statement to the media in the presence of Rama Devi and narrated the entire sequence of events. They demanded justice for their daughter and stated that when the police haven’t initiated action in the case.

In their media statement, the girl’s parents also pointed out that the police asked them to remain silent and return to their village instead. The girl’s mother said that the hospital authorities informed them that they would give preliminary treatment to the child only after they register an FIR while adding that her daughter was in terrible pain.

She also alleged that the police took her signature on a blank paper before sending them away to their home. Helpless they were returning home when their daughter’s health condition led them to seek Rama Devi’s help.  She got the child treated at Gandhi Hospital. Rama Devi on her part has called for a CBI inquiry into the incident.

Reports indicate that police have now registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused. In the meanwhile,  Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) stepped in after media reports and allegations of inaction cropped up. He has ordered the Women Security Wing (WSW) to supervise the investigation. He has also asked the officials to collect scientific evidence and also ensure that the victim’s family gets compensation from the government in addition to medical assistance for the victim.

It must be mentioned here that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken note of the incident. In this regard, NCPCR Chairman Priyank Kanoongo issued a statement saying “The incident of sexual abuse of a child in Nirmal district of Telangana has come to my notice. NCPCR is taking action in this matter.”
