A viral video of a Muslim man glorifying invasions of Mahmud of Ghazni (Mohammad Ghaznavi) is doing the rounds of social media (SM). The video has been shot at the beach adjacent to the Somnath Mandir by the man himself and the temple is visible in the background while the man hails attacks on the Hindu holy site.
Apart from glorifying Islamist invaders Mahmud Ghazni and Mohammad Bin Qasim and hailing them for attacking, looting and destroying the temple, the man also asks fellow Muslims to read and make others aware of Islam’s “glorious” history.
The man also opines that despite Ghazni, Qasim and other Islamic invaders being depicted as dacoits and thieves in present-day history books, they must be looked upon as those who brought ‘glory to Islam’. In the video the man says “It is important that Muslims read about their glorious history…how Mohammad Bin Qasim crossed the sea to capture Bharat and subsequently how Mohammad Ghaznavi came and attacked the Somnath temple”.
Furthermore, he says “Although in today’s history they are branded as thieves and dacoits, it is important to remember that they were loyal followers of Allah and brought glory to Islam.” Towards the end of the video he even admits to have visited the Somnath Mandir, short while before having shot the video while exhorting Muslims to not forget Islam’s glorious history.
A written complaint was submitted to the local police by Somnath Mandir’s General Manager Vijaysinh Chavda who demanded an FIR be filed against the unidentified man and strict action be initiated against him as well as the person seen accompanying him in the video. Accordingly, the police are said to have swung into action and identified the Muslim cleric in addition to having registered an FIR against the man.
An OpIndia report on the issue states:
This Muslim man who has now been identified as one Irshaad Rasheed has been running an Islamic YouTube channel called ‘Jamate Aadila Hind’ since 2016. The radical Islamist has various times in the past used his platform to spew venom against Hindus and provoke communal disharmony.
The viral video glorifying Mahmud Ghazni resulted in an SM outroar calling for strict action against the radical Islamist man. Following the backlash, the man identified as Irshaad is said to have put out a video message apologizing for the Somnath Mandir video.
In the apology video, he claims that the viral video had been recorded by him during his 4 May 2019 visit to Somnath Mandir. He further says that the short video was meant to applaud the Hindu temple. He also blames the media and some social media users for having distorted and misrepresented his old video with the intention of berating him.
OpIndia quotes the video message and says:
“My intention was not to hurt the religious sentiments of Indians or my Gujrati brothers or insult the Hindu place of worship. Be it a temple, mosque or church, all our places of worship. I did not intend to insult the temple or hurt anyone’s sentiments”, said Irshad Rasheed in his video message.
