Muslim man became Hindu to ‘marry’ woman, forced multiple abortions, threatened her to convert to Islam: Sultanpur, UP

A Hindu woman from Sultanpur, UP has lodged a complaint against her ‘husband’ Fahim Qureshi for threatening her to to convert to Islam and abandoning her when she is 8 months pregnant.

The woman said that Qureshi had first sexually exploited her for around 10 years under promise of marriage; he claimed he would marry her after getting his sisters married off. The woman got pregnant several times in this period, but he made her abort every time. In 2018, he finally agreed to embrace Hindu Dharma and married her.

In 2019 when she again got pregnant, he mixed an abortion pill with her food causing her to abort once again. Now he started putting pressure on her to convert to Islam, which means his earlier conversion to Hindu Dharma was faked. When the woman refused, he started threatening her in various ways. The woman lodged a complaint with police.

At first, police counselled them and brokered an agreement. Qureshi took the victim to Jaunpur, but left her there and came back. He started slandering her character, and refused to accept the latest child growing inside her as his own. After returning from Jaunpur, the woman again lodged a complaint with police.

This time around, police arrested Qureshi under various sections of the IPC. He was produced in court and sent to jail.
