A disturbing incident occurred in Maharashtra’s Beed district, where Maulvi Mujeeb and his accomplice were accused of brutally assaulting minor Hindu students. The assault reportedly took place on 8 July in Dindrud (Majalgaon) after the students were allegedly plucking Jamun fruits (blueberries) from a tree near Dargarh.
The accused, Maulvi Mujeeb Mujjid Sheikh and Sameer Attar Kasam attacked the students with a stick. It is reported that the Maulvi also attempted to strangle one of the kids. One student is in critical condition and is receiving treatment at a government hospital in Beed. The police have arrested Maulvi Mujeeb Mujjid Sheikh, while Sameer Attar Kasam is still on the run. The incident has caused outrage among the villagers.
The injured students, 13-year-old Tejas Navnath Katare and Ratneshwar Rustum Thombare are from Dindrud and attend a secondary school. On their way home from school, they went to eat Jamun from a tree near Mahebub Subhani Dargah. The Maulvi and his accomplice arrived and started beating them with a stick. Three students were injured, and one ran away in fear.
During the assault, the Maulvi hit Tejas on the head and tried to strangle him, causing severe injuries. Tejas was taken to the hospital, where he is under medical observation after a CT scan. Ratneshwar Thombare was slightly injured.
Tejas’ mother, Vandana Katare, filed a complaint at the Dindrud police station. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case (FIR No. 142/2024) and arrested the Maulvi.
