On Thursday, Kozhikode police arrested a male nurse accused of raping a lady doctor. Nisham Babu, a native of Thrissur, was detained following a petition filed by the doctor at the Kasaba police station.
Both of them worked in a private hospital in Mysuru. Recently, Nisham relocated to Kozhikode. He groomed the doctor by promising her a highly-lucrative job in Coimbatore and lured her to Kozhikode.
The 24-year-old male nurse allegedly took the doctor to a hotel in the city for sexual exploitation multiple times. This continued over three months. The victim from Thiruvananthapuram alleged that Nisham took her nude photographs and circulated them on social media when she refused to cooperate with him.
The original rape reportedly occurred on 30 December, and the sexual assaults continued till recently. The victim blocked Nisham’s phone number, and the accused released the lady’s private footage on social media. This was when she approached the Kozhikode police and filed a complaint.
Police sources said the accused youth was working in the Orthopaedic department of a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was charged under section 376 (punishment for rape) and the Information technology Act.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram Vattapara police arrested A Ansar (30) on rape and financial fraud charges. He groomed a woman in her mid-40s through social media, and the friendship turned into blind love. Ansar sexually assaulted the 45-year-old woman and cheated her of money and gold.
Once he had groomed the victim, Ansar took her to several hotels, sexually abused her, and took nude pictures of the lady. He promised her they were for ‘personal use’ and would not be misused. Later, the accused robbed her of gold ornaments and money, saying he would share the nude pictures with her husband.
Ansar repeatedly extorted almost 150 grams of gold and 12 lakh rupees from the woman by threatening to inform her husband about their relationship. When she ran out of funds, Ansar took out a loan in her name. The victim complained that Ansar bought a car worth 12 lakhs with this money.
The lady owns a private firm in Thiruvananthapuram city and became acquainted with Ansar three years ago. They met through social media, and Ansar visited her shop and established a friendship by pretending to be in love. Ansar’s greed increased over time, demanding even more money from the victim.
Unable to bear the harassment, the woman approached the Vattapara police station for help. Her complaint also pointed out that she was forced to share the bed with Ansar whenever he called her because of threats. The police investigated the complaint, registered a case, arrested the accused, and brought him to court.
The religious identity of the victims remains unclear, but it is alleged that they are non-Muslims. Could these cases be grooming jihad? Though several cases of rape/love jihad are being reported from Kerala, women fall prey to such jihadis. Are educated non-Muslim ladies so naive?
