Two Hindu women of Kaliyachawk of Maldah district alleged that their husbands were forcefully converted into Islam. They approached local police, but police didn’t help them. Against police inaction, they filed a case in Calcutta HC demanding CBI and NIA investigation. They were converted in November of 2021.
They alleged that their husbands works as masson. Their Muslim co-workers influenced them and converted them into Islam. After conversion, they are forced to do many illegal activities as smuggling to Bangladesh.
During hearing, their husbands confessed that they converted willingly. But court didn’t believe that because they went missing for many days and didn’t keep contact with the family. So, where they were staying, is not clear yet.
Maldah district of West Bengal is the hub for conversion gangs. In many past occasions, Hindus from economically backward classes were forcefully converted into Islam. But local police and administration never do anything against this conversion racket, alleged Hindu activists. Also, border areas of the district are also hub for smuggling activities. To look into all this matter, Justice Mantha directed CBI ago.
