“Tension gripped Narayanpet town in Telangana after a teenage Hindu girl’s death by suicide sparked protests and a shutdown call by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), with the organizations alleging that the incident was linked to what they described as a case of “love jihad.” Police, however, have stated that the allegations remain under investigation and have not been confirmed.
The deceased teenager allegedly had a relationship with an 18-year-old youth identified as Fasiuddin. Following the girl’s death, police arrested the accused and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Authorities have registered a case against him on charges of abetment to suicide and under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The incident triggered widespread protests in Narayanpet, with BJP and VHP leaders demanding a thorough investigation and stringent action against those found responsible. On Monday, party workers and activists gathered outside the Narayanpet Regional Transport Depot and attempted to block bus services as part of a bandh called in protest.
