Kannada actress Shanaya Katwe (20) and her lover Niyazahmed murder her brother

A Kannada model turned actor named Shanaya Katwe (20) was arrested by the Hubli rural police for her alleged involvement in the murder of her 32-year-old brother, Rakesh Katwe. Others arrested included Shanaya’s lover and live-in partner Niyazahmed Katigar (21) who was a small-time realtor and his friends Tousif Channapur (21), Aman Giraniwale (19), and Altaf Mulla (24). During interrogation, it was found that Niyaz’s family were also involved in the crime. Shanaya was living as a ‘paying guest’ with Niyaz.

Dharwad Superintendent of Police P Krishnakant confirmed the arrest. He said that “Rakesh was a major hurdle to her love affair. Hence, he was murdered and the body burnt. Prima facie, it looks like a case of a love affair. We have not come across their affiliation to any organization, but our investigations are on,”

The murder took place at their ancestral home near Hubli in the Dharwad district of Karnataka. Shanaya was in town on the 9th of April for the promotion of her film and it is alleged that Rakesh was killed that day. Rakesh had opposed Shanya’s relationship with Niyaz for which he was killed by Niyaz and his friends. The cops arrested the actress on the 22nd after her links in the murder emerged and sent her to judicial custody.

The murderers decapitated Rajesh’s head, hacked off other body parts, and then tried to burn the body. It is alleged that they then disposed of different parts at different places to avoid detection by the cops and to destroy any evidence. They were hoping that wild animals would take care of the rest and that the incident would go undetected.

Unfortunately for the accused things didn’t go as planned. According to police, the head and a charred and crudely mutilated torso packed in a plastic bag were found from the forests of Devaragudihal on the outskirts of the town on the 12th. They later discovered other severed body parts from Gadag Road in Hubli town.
