On New Year, another case of misusing photos of Muslim women has been reported. This time, it is ‘Bulli Bai’– an app on GitHub. Last year, Muslim women were targeted through ‘Sulli Deals’ where their pictures were leaked & misused. GitHub, a code hosting platform, has been used for both apps and Muslim women have been listed on both apps for auction. Both cases have been widely reported by the media. Boths apps have been removed from GitHub but this is not the final solution. It’s good to see that people on social media are also outraging & asking the concerned authorities to act against the culprits behind these apps.
This is not limited to Muslim women. Even Hindu women are facing the same from years but it has hardly been reported by the media. Today, I am going to tell you how Hindu girls & women’s photos were leaked on various platforms with their details and derogatory remarks.
Specific channels were created on Telegram where the photos of only Hindu girls were shared.
Here are the links of the some of the groups which have recently been reported & removed successfully.
These were highly active groups in which both original & morphed photos of Hindu girls were shared with their details & derogatory remarks.
Such activities are not limited to Telegram. Similar groups are also active on ‘Kik’ messenger to target Hindu women. As soon as one group was infiltrated, some specific rules mentioned for the group came up. The rules are for those people who join these groups.
Some groups have been reported and removed successfully.
Many such accounts were also created on Reddit to target Hindu Women. Here are some of the accounts which have been reported & removed.
Discord is a VoIP. It allows users to create servers which can consist of a variety of text, media and voice channels. And, guess what? Hindu women were targeted here too.
Unfortunately, our media reported only about these apps: Sulli Deals & Bulli Bai. But the media ignored the other side– the Hindu deals on various platforms.
All of us must raise voice against cybercrimes against women. And, our media should also highlight all such cases equally, not specifically.
The country needs more awareness regarding cyber crimes. From school level, both boys and girls should be educated regarding safe use of internet as well as how to report any sort of cyber crime to the concerned authorities such as portal of cyber police.
