Hindu minor girl’s body recovered from pond, 3 Muslim men booked: MP

The dead body of a 17-year-old Hindu girl was recovered from a local pond in Narola village of Shajapur district of MP on August 23. The girl had been missing from her residence in Narola village for a couple of days. Her family members had approached the local police and lodged a formal complaint, expressing their suspicion on three men, namely, Saqib Khan, Salamuddin Khan and Iqbal Baig, for the disappearance of their daughter.

The police had also registered a case of abduction and rounded up the three. However, they couldn’t get a clue about the whereabouts of the missing girl. The body of the girl was recovered from a local pond 2 days later and was immediately sent for post mortem.

However, the suspicious death has led to communal unrest in the area. Local villagers believe that the the girl was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and then murdered. Even people from surrounding villages have joined the protest. Protestors are also demanding that a raised platform (chabutra) built illegally in Narola village should be demolished.

Officials and workers of local Hindu organizations have staged demonstrations in front of the hospital where the post mortem was carried out. They stopped the vehicle carrying the corpse and held protests demanding justice for the victim and death penalty for the accused.

A panel of doctors that included a female and a male doctor was appointed to perform the post mortem on the body. The entire process will be video graphed. Police have also heightened security measures in the area.

VS Dwivedi, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Shujalpur, has informed that investigations are underway, and the report of the post mortem will guide the next course of action.
