Emboldened by the weakness of the secular Indian state, Muslim fanaticism is exploding. In another incident of bare naked Islamic violence, a Hindu lady teacher in West Bengal was assaulted by a 200-strong mob within the school, and stripped.

The teacher Chaitali Chaki’s fault? She had disciplined a Muslim girl student, who was loitering in the school, by catching hold of her ear, and in the process the girl’s hijab had slipped. When the Class 9 student Jarnatun Khatoon told her parents about the incident, all hell broke loose.

On Friday afternoon, a group led by the student’s parents first held a protest outside the headmaster’s office in Trimohini Pratap Chandra High School under the Hili police station of Dakshin Dinajpur district. They then entered the teachers’ common room where the shocking assault happened, in front of other teachers and school staff who were too scared to intervene. A video of the assault has been doing the rounds of social media.

The mob abused the teacher by using obscene language and stripped her.

The incident sparked outrage among the locals. They held protests and blocked roads on Saturday. Several students too joined these protests.

As per India Today, a shocked Chaitali said, “If students behave improperly in class and if they remain inattentive, I will pull their ear or slap them in order to discipline them at times. That day, I slapped the girl. But such an incident has never happened before. We feel a lack of protection now. How will we control the school comprising 2,000 students?”

Headmaster of the school, Kamal Kumar Jain, said, “We are ready to consult with the locals. I stand with the teachers of the school and I even feel a lack of protection. What happened was not expected. I called the BDO the other day. We will sit at a table with all representatives.”

OpIndia reports that Jain had incorrectly claimed that the matter has been ‘resolved’ after a compromise between the two parties. But later he and the teacher Chaitali Chaki went to the police station to file a case in the matter. In the complaint, several persons including Firdous Mandal, Afruza Mandal, Zakir Hossen, Masud Khatoon and Mafooja Khatoon have been named.

WB Police acts after 2 days

WB Police under Mamata Banerjee has been rendered into a toothless body when it comes to dealing with Islamist violence. Unsurprisingly, this time too they dragged their feet and Hili police station registered an FIR only on Sunday after public protests and pressure.

“We received a complaint regarding the same on 24 July. Four accused were arrested on the same day. The matter is under investigation,” Rahul Dey, SP Dakshin Dinajpur said.

BJP state president and MP Sukanta Majumder reached the spot on Sunday evening and held a protest meeting. He said, “I was a teacher once. We also disciplined many students. To a teacher, a student is his or her student only. As the teacher touched the student’s ear, her religious attire, hijab, dropped. This resulted in the incident.”

“The girl’s family along with two hundred people attacked the school. And the police didn’t have any courage to lodge a case. Only when locals held the protest and blocked the roads, police lodged an FIR against 35 persons,” the BJP leader said, seeking justice for the teacher.

The accused have been booked under sections related to outraging the modesty of a woman and trespassing.

2nd such attack on teachers in WB

Schools in WB have become the new battlegrounds due to rapid Islamization of the state. Mamata-led TMC is anyway interested in only exploiting the education system for recruitment scams like the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) scam.

In February this year, a Muslim mob in Murshidabad had resorted to stone pelting on a high school and tried to lynch the Hindu Principal (head master) after girl students were asked to come in uniform and stop wearing burqa. Principal Dinbandhu Mitra was suspended even though he was apparently only following education department directives. That matter too was ‘settled’ after ‘negotiations’ between the school administration and students’ guardians.

Such attacks on Hindu teachers are now becoming as commonplace in West Bengal as they are in Bangladesh.

In 2020, Hindu students demanding resumption of Saraswati Puja stopped since 2009 in a WB school were assaulted on a Friday by a Muslim mob in North 24-Parganas district. In 2017, it was reported that several schools across WB were forced to cancel the traditional Saraswati Puja festivities dedicated to the goddess of learning, fearing Islamist reprisals. Muslim religious groups insisted that their Prophet Muhammad’s birthday be celebrated first. 

In 2018, two Hindu students were shot dead by WB Police while they were protesting the arbitrary recruitment of an Urdu teacher, instead of the promised Bengali teacher, at a High School in Islampur, Uttar Dinajpur district.

School curriculum is being Islamized too – the traditional name for rainbow in Bengali is ‘Ramdhenu’ or Bhagwan Ram’s bow. The WB Council for Higher Education replaced it with ‘Rongdhenu’, a completely made-up word as per Bengali language experts, to avoid ‘upsetting’ Muslims. The color blue has become ‘Aasmani’ instead of the old ‘Akaashi’. Social science Class 3 textbook has replaced ‘Baba & Maa’ for parents with ‘Abba & Amma’.
