Grooming Jihad reaching remote hills of Uttarakhand, 4 Muslims arrested in Almora

A Hindu minor girl was rescued last Friday from four Muslim men from Haridwar in Dwarahat town of Almora district. Due to the alert hotel owner, members of Hindutva organisations reached the place and police was called. After a ruckus, the police had to file a case against the youth.

According to reports, the girl is a resident the remote Bagwalipokhar village of Almora. The girl was befriended by a Muslim youth from Piran Kaliyar on social media. Kaliyar is a Muslim dominated area near Roorkee in Haridwar district and has been a haven of terrorists and Pakistani spies for long. The distance between Kaliyar and Bagwalipokhar is about 350 km. On Friday, the prime accused went to meet the girl in her village with three of his friends.

They called her on mobile and were successful in luring the minor to a hotel in Dwarahat town, which is near her village. The hotel owner got  suspicious on seeing the names on the Aadhar Card provided by the men and alerted the police. Locals also reached there and caught all four persons before handing them over to the police.

The police however did not initially file a case. The local SO kept giving excuses for not filing the same. Later in the evening Dwarahat MLA Mahesh Negi reached the police station and insisted on filing a police case. Finally, a case was registered in relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act. The girl’s father has alleged that the Muslim youths planned to kidnap her daughter.

Curiously, the police declined to name the accused until late night. According to reports, the accused are all in the age group of 20-25 years and are named Kashif, Armaan, Sane Alam and Farman.

The hills of Uttarakhand have seen a worrying trend of increasing number of young girls gone missing in last few years. Although the state has a “Love Jihad Law”, it is unclear how much effective it has been to deter the grooming jihadis. Unless the police is sensitised to concerns of local citizens and takes strong action, incidents such as these will keep increasing.
