IUML youth wing leaders charged with misappropriation of funds gathered for Kathua victim

In connection with the misappropriation of funds raised for the victim’s family in the Kathua rape and murder case, police on Wednesday lodged a case of fraud against the state and national leaders of the Muslim Youth League, the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a coalition partner of Congress.

The Kerala Police said that Feroze and Subair have been charged with embezzlement of Rs 15 lakh from the over 1 crore money collected for the family of the Kathua victim.

Police said, “The case against Muslim Youth League state general secretary PK Feroz and national general secretary CK Subair, allegedly embezzling Rs 15 lakh from a fund of more than 1 crore collected by the organization. We have registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”

In his complaint, a former Youth League official Yusuf Padnilam said that the Muslim Youth League national general secretary Subair had advertised for donations in the name of providing legal assistance to the victim’s family.

The state general secretary of the league, Feroz, embezzled Rs 15 lakh. Kerala minister KT Jalil has also accused the Youth League of embezzlement in the fund and demanded that the Youth League leaders’ visit abroad and their assets must be checked.

The Kathua case involved the tragic rape and murder of a minor girl in J&K in 2018. It had become a rallying war cry for anti-Hindu forces across the country who tried to vilify Hindu society as a whole for  the crime. Ugly Hindumisic (-misia means contempt, hatred) protests were held where Hindu devi-sthans (temples dedicated for worshipping manifestations of the feminine divine) and sacred symbols like the Trishul were denigrated and Hindus collectively shamed. Protests in Kerala were especially virulent and quickly devolved into violent attacks against Hindu temples, shops and establishments.

Workers of the Popular Front of India, Jamaat-e-Islami and IUML unleashed the violence while CPM cadre provided tacit support. Pinarayi Vijayan, who has maintained a stoic silence while a slew of rape and sexual abuse cases emerged from Kerala Churches and madrassas, was quick to condemn the ‘rape in a temple by religious fanatics’ and target the Sangh Parivar for the crime.

Incidentally, KT Jaleel, who holds portfolios of Higher Education, Welfare of Minorities, Waqf and Hajj in the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet and was once a student leader in the now banned SIMI terror outfit, himself is facing scrutiny from investigating agencies in the gold smuggling case via UAE diplomatic channels.
