Disabled girl Kajal Yadav sinks into depression and dies after harassment to convert and false case lodged against her father by Christian neighbour: MP

A shocking and disturbing case has come to light from Vijay Nagar police station area in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, where a physically-impaired girl Kajal Yadav (24), allegedly fed up with a Christian family’s continuous pressure and harassment to convert to their religion, has died after sinking into depression.

Afterwards, Kajal’s family members reached Vijay Nagar police station with her dead body and demanded arrest of the accused Christian family.

The police assured Kajal’s family that strict action will be taken against the accused, after which her last rites were performed. As per Amar Ujala, a case has been lodged against the accused under MP’s freedom of religion Act and for criminal intimidation, and police is currently trying to arrest them.

The incident is of Solanki Nagar under Vijay Nagar police station area, where the deceased girl’s father Gopal Yadav, an electrician, and elder sister Khushbu Yadav alleged that a Christian family – husband Dashrath Tonere, wife Rekha Tonere and daughter Raveena Tonere – living in front of their house was pressurizing them to convert to Christianity for the last four years. The Tonere family had converted to Christianity around 7 years ago – earlier, they used the Ahirwar surname. Locals believe the family could be crypto-Christian, i.e. holding on to their Hindu SC (Scheduled Caste) status to avail reservation benefits even after conversion.

Speaking to Falana Dikhana, Khushbu said that the accused would even throw eggs or meat and play loud Christian speeches to disturb their puja and aarti. They had even offered them financial benefits to convert. When the Yadav family refused to give up Hindu Dharma, the accused sent their daughter to the Vijay Nagar police station last month to slap a fake molestation charge against Gopal Yadav.

Fearing arrest, Gopal Yadav started living away from his home. Physically-impaired Kajal, who can’t walk properly, was very attached to her father and the tense atmosphere in the house made her even more depressed. For the last many days she had been longing to see Gopal. On Thursday, February 9, he came to meet her in the afternoon but left by evening. A heart-broken Kajal had barely anything to eat and was crying for most of the night. The next day, she never woke up.

This news is now over a week old. No one from English mainstream media has even bothered to visit the Yadav household. None of the ‘secular’ champions, the so-called benefactors of ‘bhaujans’ like Akhilesh, Tejashwi, Pawar, has even bothered to comment on this tragic case. Even the PM or Madhya Pradesh CM have not commented.

Imagine a hypothetical scenario in which a disabled Muslim girl had died due to harassment on her family to convert? The Wire, Scroll, Times of India, Indian Express etc. would have descended like a pack of vultures to cover the story and ensured it echoed in their Western counterparts like NYT, BBC etc. Judiciary would have sprung into action to take suo motu notice, and demanded answers from the administration. Faced with a barrage of criticism, the CM and PM would have barked orders at the local administration, and ensured they are being seen doing it.

In the present Republic and as per its dominant intelligentsia which still controls all major institutions, Kajal’s fault was that she and her family chose to remain Hindu.
