BJP worker’s wife gang-raped by TMC block president and others – Howrah, WB

In yet another stomach-churning depraved crime committed against Hindu BJP supporters of West Bengal, the sick wife of a BJP worker was gang-raped by goons of the ruling TMC.

The woman (34) was dragged from her home, gang-raped and left with her hands and legs tied. Four of the accused -TMC block  president Qutubuddin Mallick, TMC youth wing president Debasis Rana, Sheikh Shahid and Joynal Mallick – are reported to have been arrested. There are at least two other accused named in the FIR, Rahmat Ali and Mahabul Mallick, who are yet to be arrested.

It is said that initially police was reluctant to file the FIR, but later relented due to pressure by locals. Going by the hostility shown by WB police and administration towards hundreds of similar crimes since the assembly elections results were announced on 2 May, it remains to be seen whether any meaningful action is taken against those arrested.

The crime occurred in Bainan village, near the town of Bagnan in Howrah district on Saturday night when the woman’s husband was not at home. The woman was dragged away as soon as she opened the door, gang-raped and then dumped with her limbs tied. Her son found his mother in a horrible state the next morning and alerted neighbors who took her to hospital.

The victim’s husband said that his family was being harassed in various ways since the election results were out, and that the accused were involved in many illegal activities and locals were fearful of them.

Dozens of BJP supporters have been murdered, hundreds of women raped and molested (including the rape of a grandmother in front of her grandson), and at least 40-50 thousand people have been rendered homeless due to the systematic, state-sponsored pogrom launched against them by the ruling TMC regime since 2 May. A modern-day Jiziya (tax paid by non-Muslims in an Islamic state) is being levied on Hindus before they are allowed to return to their homes and businesses.

Petitions have been lodged in both Calcutta HC and Supreme Court, but till date the judiciary has failed to pull up Mamata Banerjee. No orders have been passed demanding her to cease the violence and ensure relief and rehabilitation for the victims. A week after the violence first erupted, the Calcutta HC even expressed satisfaction with Mamata’s handling of the situation! Congress lawyers like Sibal and Singhvi, representing the WB government, have dismissed an NHRC report documenting the violence as ‘fabricated and biased’.

The central government has also failed to effectively raise the issue. The PM and HM have maintained a studied silence, while WB BJP MLAs and local leaders are mostly missing from the ground. Only Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has criticized the Mamata government in no uncertain terms. He has also visited the various camps where hapless Hindus have taken refuge, moved to tears at their plight.

National and local media, especially the English-language media, have totally ignored this state-wide pogrom, once again revealing their anti-Hindu (aka left-liberal/secular) editorial stance. Whatever has been reported has been projected as a ‘BJP-vs-TMC’ tussle or ‘routine political violence’. Media has shown more interest in demonizing  a protest organized over the weekend by some Hindu leaders demanding UCC and a population control bill, for alleged anti-Islam sloganeering.

Kashmir 1990 has been repeated in West Bengal 2021, and the Indian state has once again failed Hindus.
