BJP woman worker brutally gang-raped and poisoned: Khejuri, Purba Medinipur

Gang rape of a housewife associated with the BJP and attempts to kill her by forcing her to consume poison has sparked protests in Khejuri of Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal.

Angry locals of the area protested after the incident came to light on Wednesday morning. They have been demanding severe punishment for the accused, reports Bengali daily Sangbad Pratidin. Police and central security forces have been rushed to control the situation.

The victim is a resident of Baralata, Maldah from the Khejuri constituency and was known as a prominent BJP karyakarta in the locality. Residents and BJP workers said that some men, believed to be linked to the ruling TMC, had abducted her on the night of Tuesday, May 4th. She was brutally gang-raped after which the accused tried to murder her by forcing her to consume poison. However, despite the poison, the victim was somehow rescued and rushed to a local hospital, where her condition continued to deteriorate and she had to be transferred to Tamluk hospital.

On Wednesday, when word about this gruesome incident spread across Khejuri, residents took to the streets to protest. The presence of the local Trinamool MLA candidate Partha Pratim Das, who lost to BJP’s Santanu Pramanik, did little to help the situation as livid members of the public demanded severe punishment for the accused.

A disturbing video shared on social media shows what appears to be the gang-rape survivor sitting in a disheveled and traumatized state. While another woman consoles her, she is heard wailing and narrating what happened to her to some security personnel who are recording her testimony on their mobiles. “They raped and poisoned me. I am no more a Hindu. How will I show my face! I am a Hindu no more,” she can be her wailing. HinduPost has not been able to independently verify this video.

If local accounts are to be believed, this would be one among multiple gang-rapes and molestations unleashed on BJP’s women karyakartas or supporters since Mamata Banerjee’s TM retained power for the third time in the just concluded state election. Villages after villages have been torched, over 15 BJP karyakartas have been murdered or succumbed to injuries after being attacked and battered.

BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari has stated that over 1 lakh Bengali Hindus have been rendered homeless and have sought refuge elsewhere, including in the adjoining BJP-ruled state of Assam. With the situation continually worsening, the blood-smeared land of West Bengal doesn’t look far from being turned into Kashmir of the late 80s and early 90s.
