Antima was groomed by Imran; then converted, sold for money and killed after 11 years of ‘marriage’

In a shocking incident reported from Kota, Rajasthan, a 26-year-old woman was killed in broad daylight in the middle of the street. The victim has been identified as Rizwana, a resident of Vigyan Nagar, who has left behind 3 now-orphaned children. Rizwana was originally a Hindu woman named Antima Shekhawat.

She was groomed by daily wage earner Imran and eloped with him at the age of 15. After an alleged illegal marriage (legal age of marriage for girls is 18), Antima was converted to Islam and given the name Rizwana by Imran and his family.

The couple soon became parents to three children, but the marriage quickly went sour.  Imran proved to be an abusive husband who would often drink heavily and hit Antima aka Rizwana. As the children entered their marriage, they too became the target of Imran’s violence.

Imran had once taken Antima to Goa and sold her into prostitution for a sum of Rs. 1.2 lakh. It was with a great struggle that Antima rescued herself but her fatal error was to return to Imran after that escape and trying to give her ‘marriage’ another chance. With time Antima realized that things will never get better and wanted a way out of her daily sufferings, informs her sister Anita. She also stated that the drunkard would not only assault her mercilessly in fits of rage but also burnt her with cigarettes.

She finally moved out of this toxic marriage and started to live separately. But Imran continued to call her here as well and threatened her with severe consequences. Imran’s mother had also harassed Antima repeatedly and regularly, alleges Anita. Once Imran took Antima back forcefully but kept torturing her. Antima again moved out of the house and had put up with her elder sister. But a few months ago, Imran again came to their place and beat her barbarously with a cricket bat. The wounds Antima had sustained were so severe that she had to get 17 stitches.

The helpless and battered mother of three had then decided to divorce Imran and also filed a case, as shared by her family. Imran turned ferocious after learning about the same, says the sister. This may have triggered Imran to plan the murder of his wife.

On Wednesday, 18 August, he ambushed Antima when she was on her way for her regular chores. Her 12-year-old niece was also accompanying her. Imran attacked the woman with a sharp knife and left multiple bleeding wounds across her body, including a slit on her throat. The street on which the attack took place was awash with Antima’s blood.  The niece was also injured in the clash. Imran fled the scene as soon as his actions attracted locals to the spot.

The victim was first rushed to a local hospital and then referred to the New Medical College. Unfortunately, Antima was pronounced dead on arrival, making hers yet another horrific case of Grooming Jihad that passes through the stages of young infatuation, marriage, religious conversion and a brutal end.

In yet another case of grooming jihad or ‘inter-faith’ relation going horribly wrong, single mother and real estate executive Diksha Mishra was brutally murdered in Nainital, Uttarakhand by a scrap dealer Imran, who had entered into a relationship with her after posing as a Hindu man.

Amidst a deluge of such incidents, the anti-conversion laws introduced in some states like UP, MP, Gujarat have come as a god-send for beleaguered Hindu families who find their minor daughters being targeted by religious radicals. These new laws have tough penalties for anyone found grooming and trapping young girls and have introduced much-needed checks to examine conversions for marriage. Under Islamic sharia law, a Hindu woman or man must convert to Islam before marriage to a Muslim; only women who are considered ‘people of the book’ i.e. Christians and Jews can marry a Muslim man without converting. No non-Muslim man can marry a Muslim woman.

As expected, anti-Hindu forces and left-liberal lawyers are the forefront of trying to get these laws struck down and there is a high risk that they will succeed with our judiciary. Hindu society and religious groups need to mount a major campaign to defend these laws and also raise awareness on this issue which is driven by religious supremacism against ‘polytheist kafirs’.
