Another Hindu, sole breadwinner of his family, shot dead by terrorists in Kashmir

In a tragic incident, another Hindu has fallen victim to Islamic terrorism in Kashmir, resulting in devastating consequences for his family. Deepu, a resident of Udhampur and the sole provider for his visually impaired father and brother, was brutally shot dead on the night of May 29. The heinous act has been claimed by a terrorist outfit believed to be linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Deepu, a resident of Udhampur working for a circus troupe in an amusement park in Anantnag was shot dead by two bike-borne terrorists around 8.30 pm on May 29. He had stepped out of the amusement park to buy milk in the nearby market when he was shot thrice at close range. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

With Deepu’s father already visually impaired and his brother also struggling with defective vision, the loss of their sole breadwinner has left the family shattered. Deepu’s brother, speaking to ANI, expressed their anguish, questioning the injustice they have suffered. He stated, “My eyes have been defective for the last four years. My father is visually impaired; he can’t work. We are completely destroyed. We want justice. What was our fault?”

The terrorist outfit responsible for the attack, Kashmir Freedom Fighters (KFF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for Deepu’s murder and issued threats of more such killings in the future. KFF was behind the killing of Sanjay Mishra, a Kashmiri Pandit who worked as a bank security guard. While Deepu was from Udhampur, Jammu as per other media reports, Jagran and Zee News called Deepu a “migrant worker” and “non-local”. The Hindu on the other hand as usual downplayed the crime by referring to the perpetrators as “militants”.

As the Amarnath Yatra is set to commence soon, heightened vigilance is crucial, as it is anticipated that terrorist attacks may escalate. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing threats faced by innocent civilians in Kashmir and the urgent need for peace and security in the region.
