A Mumbai-based fashion designer has accused a Chartered Accountant (CA), Furquan Khan, of raping her and then further exploiting her under the pretext of marriage. The 25-year-old woman lodged an FIR at Vakola police station against Khan, a resident of Goawala compound in Kurla, on Thursday night.
The woman said she came in contact with the accused through a social media platform in January last year after which they began chatting online.
Within a month, Khan demanded Rs 10,000 from her, which she borrowed from her friend and gave it to him. But when she asked him to return the money, he started ignoring her calls and giving excuses. In September last year, Khan said he would come over to her house, where she lived alone, to return the money.
There, he raped her but promised to marry her, which she believed. Since then he had been harassing her, a police official said. The fashion designer finally decided to approach the police and lodge a complaint against Khan.
Although a case under IPC section 376 (rape) has been registered against Khan, he is yet to be arrested.
In another news from Mumbai from October last year, Nalasopara police arrested five members of a Kurla-based family – Salim Siddiqui (65), his wife Ruksana (52) and their children Akeel (27) Firoz (26) and Farheen (25), all residents of Kasaiwada in Kurla – for their involvement in a rape case. A 38-year-old woman had complained that the family, whom she met on a local train, had taken money from her in exchange for a job in the Middle-East and sexually exploited her repeatedly after lacing her drink with a sedative.
