One more gang-rape in Perumbavoor, the illegal immigrant hub of Kerala

Yet another gang rape case has emerged from the illegal immigrant’s hub of Perumbavoor in Kerala. All four accused have now been arrested and remanded. The arrested including Salim Mondal, Muklan Ansari, Moni Munirool, and Shakeel Mondal are reportedly immigrants from Bengal.

The rapists invited the lady cook under the pretext of cooking biryani and committed the crime once the lady arrived at Ansari’s house. She is also a migrant laborer. The accused were on the run and were planning to escape from Kerala since March 30th, when the incident occurred. They were arrested after a police force headed by Perumbavur DYSP Jayaraj chased them down, a couple of days ago.

That such perverts were active even during these times of pandemic is unfortunate. Last August too saw a gang rape in the same district of Ernakulam where three migrant workers, Shahid, Farhad Khan, and Haneefa raped a 14-year-old girl. A six-member gang was involved and were torturing the young girl since March. The fate of a manhunt that was launched to track the three who escaped to their native Uttar Pradesh is not known.

The young victim whose mother had passed away was staying with her grandparents whiWest Bengal, le her father was working in Delhi. The accused raped her when she was alone at her house when the lockdown was imposed and continued the crime by threatening her. This continued till August.

The incident came to light after a medical checkup led an alert counseling doctor to inform the police after the girl became pregnant. The young girl disclosed the story of abuse to the doctor. Activists of the Bharatiya Mahila Morcha had protested back then demanding the immediate arrest of all the accused.

November of 2019 saw the brutal rape and murder of a woman in her early forties at Perumbavoor by a migrant vagabond named Umar Ali from Assam. Umar, a drug addict, attacked the woman after she resisted his advances, and raped her when she was unconscious (and probably dying) before hacking her again. The sadistic psychopath was later arrested. The whole incident gained national prominence back then since Umar’s actions were caught on CCTV cameras.

July 2018 saw the cold-blooded murder of an undergraduate student named Nimisha Thampi who had her throat slit by a West Bengal native named Mulla. The brave girl had to bear the brunt of a thug who brazenly entered their house to extort money and ended up snatching Nimisha’s grandmother’s gold chain. The criminal had a history of extreme violence and alcoholism in the Aluva area of Ernakulam where he was working as a laborer. He was later arrested from a real estate site where he was hiding.

This crime led to many immigrants being forced to leave following resistance from locals who accused them of rampant drug abuse, robberies, and murders that had grown exponentially, especially in areas where such infiltrators were renting houses and living in large numbers.

Nothing compares to the infamous Jisha murder by an Assamese migrant named Ameer Ul Islam. Jisha a Dalit student was raped and murdered in the most gruesome manner in April of 2018 in her house at Perumbavoor. Islam disemboweled Jisha with a sharp weapon, stabbed her multiple times, raped her and when she pleaded for water (in her dying moments) he plied her with alcohol. The psychopath then managed to escape from Kerala and was ultimately arrested from Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu. Legal rigamarole allowed Islam to escape the noose.

Strong defense lawyers and an indifferent attitude/ complicity from the state government has now led to criminals being let off within seven years and them escaping the capital punishment that they deserve. A perfect example is the 2011 murder of Soumya, a young salesgirl on her way back home by Charly Thomas, a one-handed criminal who pushed her off a moving train, raped the helplessly injured lady on the railway tracks, and her ultimate painful death five days later. Charly was living under the pseudonym, Govinda Swamy.

His original sentence of capital punishment was subsequently reversed. How do such criminals attain the services of senior lawyers attached with High Courts and Supreme Court, who charge lakhs per sitting should be investigated. The ruling communist party’s stance against capital punishment has in fact helped such criminals more than the citizens that elected them to power. In societies with weak law enforcement like Bharat, violent crimes deserve strict punishment as a deterrence.

It is alleged that some of these immigrants are Bangladeshi infiltrators and not actually Bharatiya citizens. A situation has now arisen where these criminals feel free to indulge in crime and slip back into their country of origin, exactly the same way they had infiltrated into Bharat. Once they do that, their chances of getting caught for violent crimes committed in our country is nil.

This should be a major worry for citizens living in areas where such illegal immigrants are found in large numbers and especially where our security and police apparatus is less proactive. In places like Ernakulam district, this problem has now reached its breaking point.
