Terror plot hatched by Malaysia-based Rohingya leader and Zakir Naik uncovered; states on high alert

Bharat’s intelligence agencies have uncovered a terror plot hatched by absconding Islamic televangelist Zakir Naik and a Malaysia-based Rohingya leader. Intelligence suggests that the plot involves a terror strike by a group led by a woman trained in Myanmar who may infiltrate through the Bangladesh or Nepal border.

As per media outlets who have accessed the intel report, the red flag went up when a slew of suspicious Bharat-centric transactions of around 200,000 (2 lakh) US dollars were tracked to Kuala Lumpur based Rohingya leader Mohammed Naseer and Zakir Naik. Part of these funds were tracked to a Chennai-based hawala dealer.

The report further says that a woman is suspected to have gone from Malaysia to Myanmar early this year to train for the strike. A group of operatives led by her will attempt to infiltrate Bharat in mid or end of December through Bangladesh or Nepal border.

Likely targets for the strike are Delhi, Ayodhya, Bodh Gaya, major cities of West Bengal and Srinagar. Accordingly, police and state intelligence bureaus of the respective states have been asked to step up surveillance.

It must be remembered that Bodh Gaya was hit with 10 serial bombs in a terror attack on July, 2013 by an Indian Mujahideen (IM) module controlled from Pakistan. 5 men were sentenced to life for that attack which was carried out to avenge ‘Rohingya killings’.

The conflict in Arakan region of Myanmar where Rohingya Muslims have been demanding a separate state for decades came to a head in August 2017 after Rohingya terror group ARSA attacked Myanmar border posts and guards killing several. Subsequently, Rohingya extremists started a campaign of ethnic cleansing against Hindus, Buddhists and other ethnic minorities in Rakhine state. In response, the Myanmar Army cracked down and allegedly drove out lakhs of Rohingya Muslims out of Mynamar into bordering Bangladesh.

Many Rohingya Muslims have illegally poured into Bharat in the last few years, many even being settled in sensitive states like J&K while successive ‘secular’ central and state governments turned a blind eye. Officially, they are numbered around 40,000 in Bharat with significant presence in Chennai, Hyderabad, Jammu and Delhi. Courts too have been more concerned about facilities provided to these illegal immigrants, than the national security threat intelligence agencies have consistently flagged regarding them.

A few conduits belonging to radical Islamist group Popular Front of India (accused in anti-hindu Delhi riots and other terror acts) are also suspected of extending logistical support to this planned terror strike, the intel report adds.
