Guwahati: 4 Muslims arrested for gang-rape of a janjatiya Karbi woman

A Karbi janjatiya (‘tribal’) woman in Guwahati was gang-raped by her Muslim colleagues, including the private business owner where she worked. Last Thursday (April 21), the victim, hailing from Karbi Anglong district, lodged a complaint at Hatigaon Police Station against the accused coworkers for raping her on April 20. She joined the work a few days before the heinous crime.

The victim was taken to the rented house of the accused colleagues on the pretext of lunch and gang-raped. She also added that she reported the incident to business owner Rafiq Ali but he took no action.

The police have arrested her colleagues Naeemuddin, Mukul Islam, Ashraful Amin, and the owner, Rafiq Ali. The accused admitted to the crime and the victim was sent for medical examination.

“According to the survivor, she had joined the establishment a few days back. On Wednesday, three of her associates took her to a rented house near his office, where they lived, for lunch,” said Sudhakar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Guwahati East).
