Wasim becomes Vikas to trap a woman in a grooming case from Ujjain

A woman, who was duped by one Wasim identifying himself Vikas in a grooming case from Ujjain, has registered a complaint against the man on the basis of which Wasim has been arrested reports Dainik Bhaskar.

The 35-year-old woman residing in Muninagar has alleged in her complaint that Wasim had duped her with the false promise of marriage and had been sexually abusing her for more than a year. Badnagar resident Wasim had told the woman that his name was Vikas. However, the woman came to know his real identity when she found his driving license with the name Wasim in his purse one day. It was then that she approached the women’s police station to file a complaint.

The police arrested Wasim on Wednesday from Badnagar Court intersection when he was attempting to evade arrest. It must be mentioned here that he had escaped the clutches of the police earlier on 20 December. The police learned from their sources that Wasim was hiding at a relative’s place in Badnagar. It is then that they arrived there with the woman.

Wasim tried to escape on seeing the police jeep by covering his face with a scarf. However, the woman identified him and the police gave chase to catch Wasim from the fields nearby. When the police were taking him to the Zilla Hospital for a medical test post-arrest, the woman is said to have beaten him up.

In his confession statement, Wasim admitted that he had been in a physical relationship with the woman. He, however, denied having hidden his true identity or name. He defended himself by saying that the woman was purposely trying to give the incident a communal color.

This is not the first but the third time that the woman has become a victim of grooming. In her statement to the media, the woman said that she has registered a case against the other two with the Indore and Ujjain’s Nanakheda Police Stations. She said that Wasim Akram had been sexually abusing her for the past two years under the pretext of marrying her.

The first case is of a man named Zubair who had identified himself as Raj. The woman came in touch with him in 2016 on the OLX site when she was looking to purchase a car. Zubair was a car dealer who used to buy cars from Indore and sell them in Ujjain. He had asked her to invest in his business saying that it was a profitable venture. Further, he too exploited her sexually with the fake promise of marriage.

In 2017 he ran away to Biaora after duping the woman. Finally, she registered a sexual harassment case against him with the Indore police. The woman said that Zubair was arrested and sent to jail. He is said to have got bail after 3-4 months and at present, a legal battle is ongoing in the court.

She then came in touch with Ujjain’s Bilotipura resident Sajid who works with the Nagar Nigam when the woman was house-hunting. When he came to know about the deception by Zubair and the woman’s plight, Sajid began befriending the woman and frequently visited her place to offer solace. Although he initially told her that he was a Hindu, he later revealed his true identity.

The woman alleged that Sajid took advantage of her being alone and even he exploited her sexually in addition to misappropriating five lakh worth of ornaments and 2.5 lakh in cash from her. He is even said to have taken a loan for his daughter’s marriage in lieu of the woman’s Muninagar house registry. She then registered a case of sexual exploitation against Sajid with the Nanakheda police station on 22 July 2020. The police are yet to arrest Sajid.

The woman who is a divorcee with two kids said that she had gotten married in 2004 but three years after her wedding her relationship with her husband soured and the two ultimately parted ways. She has been living in a rented flat in Muninagar ever since.
