Think For India Research Conference on ‘Protests and Riots in India – Media, Politics and Propaganda’

Bharat has been defined by the peaceful coexistence of multiple religions, the harmony among multitudes of cultures and the cohesion between diverse ethnicities. Since time immemorial, it has been exemplified as the land that amplifies the idea of ‘unity in diversity’. Being one of the largest democracies of the world, it has been remarkably inclusive and receptive. But time and again violent incidents have surfaced, blurring the image of a strong, united Bharat. To maintain the integrity and sovereignty of our nation, it becomes necessary that we all start to ask, assess and analyse. Are we really aware of the hidden agendas behind these protests? Do we know the masterminds, who plot the conspiracies of bloodshed? Do we give it a thought before we forward a message on social media platforms? Do we not find it unsettling to see violence after a mindless protest? There is a long list of questions to be asked to every citizen of this nation. Seeking the solutions to those questions through collective deliberations becomes even more pertinent.

A budding youth organisation, Sthaapna has taken upon the responsibility of spreading awareness alongside providing an opportunity to the young ones who can seek a solution. In a Pan India Research Conference to be organised by Sthaapna on 7th and 8th of August, 2021 the theme would be “Riots and Protests in India – Media, Politics and Propaganda”. This two-day interactive conference would see the participation of students, young researchers, youth leaders and social activists from across the nation. The registrations for Sthaapna ‘Think for India’ Research Conference are open till 2nd of August, 2021. Through this forum the organization aims to bring forward the vigilant citizens of society who can talk about the truth which remains hidden behind the cameras; the propagandas that remain hidden behind the manifestos and the reality which is not seen by the innocent. The paper presentations in the conference would be centered upon the tragic incidents of riots / protests or massacres in the post-independence period of Bharat and explore the role and responsibility of various stakeholders in them. Ranging from a journalist who covers the ground report to a business tycoon, the role of every stakeholder has to be closely scrutinized. It is time to commit ourselves to the nation. It is time that we ensure enough awareness against powers sitting in foreign lands, conspiring to attack the sovereignty and integrity of Bharat by their attempts to criminalise politics, institutionalise corruption, and politicise the administration and police.

The ascent of Bharat as a strong nation under a visionary leadership, has increased the dangers of attempts to disintegrate and defame it. Bharat is not only being frayed at its borders by insurgencies but its consolidated soul is under severe danger with the threat of vote bank politics taking over the true spirit of democracy. The struggle to gain political power by hook or by crook is leading to popular faces call out for armed uprising against the State. The trend to defame the State for its inability to contain violent uprisings has been on a rise since 2014. Bharat was the second-worst affected country by the Covid-19 pandemic. It implemented the strictest lockdown reducing public activities further. Still, it saw big protests and two major communal riots in 2020. The events of mob lynching and brutal killings have not subsided. The appeasement of particular communities and inciting violence under the pretext of getting justice or equality have become a part and parcel of electoral politics. This political tumult is not restricted to power corridors but seep deep down to the lives of common man. One community pitted against another causes widespread fear and chaos, costing the lives of multitudes of innocent citizens. The mindless protests and arsons by violent herds of brainwashed people brings a heavy loss to lives and property including the State property.

The most probable solution to end these tragic incidents from occurring is to generate a high level of awareness amongst the masses. Discovering the truth behind every statement of politicians, every single act of the civil society and every report coverage of the media would enable the common man to act accordingly. Our nation is the birthplace of world’s four major religion; it has given refugee to followers of persecuted religion and has granted sanctuary to millions of people. As a prominent centre of culture, trade and prosperity, it remained a centre of attraction for all. It has been the will of the people that this country has thrived; united and integrated; even in the face of all adversities. There were deceits and dissatisfaction; there were wars with the neighboring countries and long stretched protests by the people; but in all trying circumstances our country stood strong. It is time that we all realize the potential of a nation consolidated by the will of the people. It is time that we dwell upon the mistakes that caused a havoc during every single riot, protest and massacre and take lessons from them.

Sthaapna has been relentlessly working in the areas of youth awareness and empowerment. It strives to generate enthusiasm and pride for the rich heritage and culture of Bharat. The ‘Think for India’ Research Conference would be a milestone in ensuring a deep introspection of every aspect of the riots and protests. This generation has a lot to learn and a lot to disseminate for the coming future generations.

The participants at the conference would be formulating an erudite research report on any one riot or protest and would be presenting it. The registration for the Research Conference can be done from the following link: https://forms.gle/ybvn8fo3nDjfxZVs5
